Deljana Iossifova is an architect and urban design consultant with experience in Europe, the United States and East Asia. She holds a diploma in Architecture (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology/ETH Zurich) and a PhD in Public Policy Design (Tokyo Institute of Technology).

Before joining the University of Manchester, she was a Research Fellow at the University of Westminster and PhD/Postdoctoral Fellow at the United Nations University, Institute of Advanced Studies.

Her current research is around urban inequality, urban growth and transformation in developing countries and focuses on issues of urban coexistence, everyday practices and sanitation infrastructure. She frequently comments on EU-China relations around matters of sustainable urbanisation for the Europe China Research and Advice Network (ECRAN).

Iossifova is co-editor of “Defining the Urban: Interdisciplinary and professional perspectives” (Ashgate, forthcoming); “Scarcity: Architecture in an age of depleting resources”(Wiley, 2012); and guest editor of a special issue of the journal Cities on “Urban Borderlands” (Elsevier, 2013).
